The lecture series Mathe Macht! presents areas of responsibility for mathematicians in practice. On July 3, 2023, Stefan Hämmerle and Fabian Rapp from the consulting firm viadico were guests at the department. They gave an interested group of students an insight into their projects with a focus on technical mathematical consulting for life insurance companies. This was exemplified in projects on the digitalization of business processes and the migration of portfolio management systems. Especially the wide range of mathematical tasks and the broad expertise make the tasks interesting for mathematicians in this professional field.
In the subsequent discussion, the students and doctoral candidates asked questions about career entry, corporate culture and actuarial training. It was particularly interesting to note that both speakers studied mathematics and only made the step from study to profession in the last few years. Mr. Hämmerle is a graduate of the Department of Mathematics at the University of Stuttgart.
