The “Deutschlandstipendium” is a merit-based scholarship established by The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and private donors to encourage and support students by taking into account more than just subject-related qualifications and achievements (e.g., prizes and internships). It aims to award extracurricular engagement (e.g., volunteering, social or political engagement) and consider circumstances, that have complicated the educational biography to date (such as caring for own children, a migration background, illnesses).
The Federal Ministry of Education and Research defines the goal of this program:
“Many people start achieving great things at a young age. The Deutschlandstipendium is designed to encourage them and support them in their decision to pursue an ambitious course of study. Thousands of university students all over Germany benefit from such support each year. The scholarship provides room for civic engagement and personal development during their academic studies.”
