Dr. Joerg Fehr at the Institute of Engineering and Computational Mechanics (ITM) and Dr. Bernard Haasdonk at the Institute of Applied Analysis and Numerical Simulations (IANS) in the University of Stuttgart organized an IUTAM symposium on Model Order Reduction of Coupled Systems (MORCOS 2018).
Rector Wolfram Ressel gave the welcome speech and the IUTAM representative Dr. Peter Eberhard elaborated on the long history of IUTAM symposiums. This SimTech supported conference fosters discussions about the field of Model Order Reduction, a multidisciplinary field between Mathematics, Engineering, and Computer Science as well as a key thrust area of SimTech. Nowadays simulations demand high computational power. Model Order Reduction reduces the system complexity, therefore, allowing for faster computations while aiming to retain the accuracy of the model being simulated.
The weeklong symposium had 13 contributed sessions and 4 keynote presentations from renowned experts. It was well attended by 56 participants from 11 different countries and 4 continents. Since the university believes in open access, the public was welcome to attend all the symposium talks.
