Prof. Hong joined the Institute for Functional Matter and Quantum Technologies and will establish a new research group on Quantum Device Technology. His research spans from quantum sensing based on solid-state spin systems to quantum state control of massive mechanical structures. In Stuttgart, he will combine his various expertise to develop novel quantum technologies and to probe fundamental questions in quantum physics.
Prof. Hong studied mechanical and aerospace engineering at Seoul National University, South Korea, and obtained his Ph.D. in applied physics at Harvard University, USA. Prior to his appointment at the university of Stuttgart, Prof. Hong held a professorship at the Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), South Korea, and was a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Vienna.
The appointment of Prof. Hong strengthens the university’s expertise in quantum science and technology in particular the Intergated Quantum Science and Technology Center (IQST) and the Center for Applied Quantum Technology (ZAQuant).
The physics department welcomes Prof. Hong and wishes him a successful start in Stuttgart.
